Approximately 10 years ago, I served as a Testing Coordinator during summer school. Attendance was required for students who had failed the standardized tests. Looks like the more some things change the more they stay the same! I just completed my first year as a Summer School Site Coordinator. While standardized testing was not a determinant, there were just as many students attending summer school this year!
Students were required to attend summer school if they failed one or more core subjects. Many students excelled and performed better than during the school year! There are many theories for the changes, but I’m not sure they matter. I am extremely proud of most of the students, and I believe that some of them surprised themselves. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the faculty, the students, and the school district.
