Woman of Honor-November (3 of 3)

Did you know that Mary Griffin is world-renowned? She “went to Amsterdam in the Netherlands to record the title song for Holiday on Ice entitled: “Speed” along with two other tracks”? That was in 2011, but she also “performed “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” with Frankie Valley for the closing credits of Conspiracy Theory. Mary also sang “I Wanna Get Back With You” for the movie Driven starring Burt Reynolds. Other notable movies that feature Mary’s voice include: Coyote Ugly and Ballistic X vs Sever.”

There is more to Mary Griffin’s fascinating story! The Louisiana native has been exposed to various cultures, and she has amazed them with her talents. “After returning from Europe promoting and shooting the video for “Ain’t No Living Without You” by Louis Biancaniello and Sam Waters from Color Me Badd, she was privileged to have one of her songs selected by Celine Dion. “I Surrender” was an instant success with Celine and further drove Mary’s writing and singing out front.”

Would you like to know what Mary is doing now? “She is currently touring with George Clinton & Patti Labelle two people who brought her exciting memories as well as lessons in music, love, and living. From November 24-December 1, she will be on a “European Tour with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.” This Woman of Honor continues to bless the world with her gifts! There is nothing that she will not be able to accomplish, and the sky is the limit for her! I am grateful to Mary Griffin for allowing me to feature her this month.

How You Can Sing A Song of Thanksgiving

What are you thankful for? I have so many things to be thankful for that I can’t tell it all! I will say that I am thankful for how God has covered me! After my greatest blessings, my greatest trials have come! If it had not been for God’s grace and mercy, I don’t know where I’d be! I dedicate this day to my mother and the one who calls me, “CC!” I know that God is still in control regardless of what I see!

Although I haven’t reached my destiny, God keeps me on my feet! He knows that I’m not perfect, but I’m striving for perfection in my daily walk with Thee. Even when I fall, God doesn’t hand me over to the enemy! So, I’m thankful for Psalm 41:11: “By this I Know that thou favorest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.” This is how I feel today, and I’m sure that I’m not alone in my thinking!

Hasn’t God been good to you? Aren’t you in your right mind? Is food on your table and shelter over your head? Do you still have friends and family? Do you have a portion of your health and strength? Your money might be funny, or your change might be strange! Hasn’t God still blessed you with plenty? Here’s how you can sing a song of Thanksgiving: Count your blessings! If you can, sing with me:

Performed by Jonny Lang/Michael McDonald

Someones standing in a welfare line
Or off the freeway with a hungry sign
Someones stressing bout to lose their mind
I gotta be thankful, thankful

Someone just became a single mother
Someone just lost a sister or brother
Its so important that we love each other
And be

Thankful, thankful
Ive gotta take the time to say, that I’m
Thankful, thankful
For every single breath that I take
Ive gotta be thankful, thankful

Someones sitting in a prison cell
Wasting away in their own personal hell
Everybody’s got their own story to tell
Ive gotta be thankful, thankful

Man, I used to think I didn’t have a lot
Now I realize just how much Ive got
Now every day I’m gonna take the time and stop to be

Any one of these so easily could have been me
But if it had not been for grace and mercy who knows where Id be

Ive been riding on this roller coaster ride
Round and round Ive seen the up and downside
And I’m here to tell you that the secret of life is being

Video of the Week: How Obamacare Will Impact You in 2014

Imagine people coming to you for advice, and you only know two things about the topic. I knew that Obamacare was geared to help those who are uninsured. I also knew that some things, which had not been previously covered by employers, will now be covered. As more people continued to ask me, I made it my business to learn more. I would like to share how Obamacare will impact you in 2014.

The video by YouToons is animated, and it is narrated by Charlie Gibson. It is simple and easy to understand. If you do not like the video or want more information, read “Ten Questions About Obamacare You Were Too Embarrassed to Ask.” If you live in Louisiana and you want someone to speak about Obamacare, contact Ms. Roanita Turner Jenkins. She is a personal friend who is a Certified Healthcare Reform Specialist.

How Eating More Fruit Helps Everyone

Everything that smells, tastes, sounds, or feels good to us is not always good for us! Here are some examples: I had some perfume that smelled wonderful in the bottle. When I sprayed it on, it seemed like my circulation was being cut off! I was allergic to it! In addition, I attempted to get my daily fruit intake by drinking fruit juices! Although they tasted delicious, they were not good for me! The sugar content was so high; I’ve been harming myself!

I need to eat more natural fruit! I guess I was misleading myself because it was comfortable. This reminds me of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22). Too many people don’t have love, joy, peace, patience, or kindness. We are misleading ourselves; there are no short-cuts! Like natural fruit, it’s only one way to get them. We gain the fruit through the Spirit. The more we eat of this fruit it helps everyone! We can’t go wrong with more peace, etc.

I have heard some of the most beautiful things! They were lies, and they only meant to do harm. It takes careful inspection to figure it out! Matthew 7:16-18 says, “You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.”

Matthew 7:19-20 adds, “So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” Remember: The things that we NEED may not always feel good, but they are always for our good! They will will pay off! Proverbs 13:2 says, “A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.”

Will you eat more fruit, which helps everyone? If you are not convinced, read this.

“To be Successful, you need Family & Friends, But, To be very Successful, you need Enemies & Competitors…!”-Anonymous

I don’t know what difference her enemies and competitors have made, but I know that the “Woman of Honor” is very successful! I also know that Mary Griffin has had the support of her family! Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote, “was born in New Orleans, the daughter of a local minister. As a child, she sang in churches with her family, and by her teens she had realized she wanted to pursue a musical career.”

Erlewine added, “Her style eventually developed into a gospel-inflected contemporary update of classic soul; even though she was a New Orleans native, there was very little Crescent City R&B in her style. She was discovered singing at a local club in the mid-’90s by some talent scouts and by 1997 she had signed with Curb Records. Her debut album, For the First Time, was released in the fall of that year.”

Mary’s friends are extremely proud of her, and they keep her encouraged. If she has enemies, they are awfully quiet! I have never heard anyone utter a negative word about her. As for competitors, I am sure they admire her gifts and feel challenged to do better. She also uses her blessings to make a difference. Next week, you will learn more of what Mary Griffin has been doing since releasing her first album. What do you think?

What You Should Know about Auto Insurance

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “Motor vehicle crashes and fatalities increased in 2012 after six consecutive years of declining fatalities on our nation’s highways.” These crashes and fatalities have been attributed to many different things (from drunk driving to excessive speed).

Driver distraction is also a common cause for auto accidents, which means many accidents could have been avoided. In 2004, I was involved in a head-on collision. I was injured, but I was grateful to be alive! My ankle and foot were broken, and I had to miss work. I am also grateful for disability insurance. When I was able to drive, I did not have a vehicle.

I have heard many horror stories about insurance agents. However, my insurance agent was cooperative and supportive. He quickly arranged for me to get a rental car without any problems. Let me tell you though: The insurance process was tedious and annoying! I learned several lessons, and I promised that I would share those lessons with others.

Here is what you should know about auto insurance:

  • Lower prices are misleading. I thought I had a good policy, but I believe that this determined how long it took for my claim to be serviced.
  • Liability insurance may not be enough to pay for your needs. Depending on the severity of the accident and the number of passengers, you may need more insurance than the state requires.
  • Keep your payments up to date. My parents made sure that they reminded me of this lesson, and I am glad I listened! If you haven’t paid your premiums, it will be difficult to file a claim.

Have you had a negative experience with your auto insurance company? Please comment.

    Woman of Honor-November (1 of 3)

Were you thinking what I was thinking? Of course, you don’t know what I was thinking. Let me tell you: When I watched “Black Girls Rock,” I thought of all the girls and women that I know who absolutely rock! I was motivated by them to start my new series, “Woman of Honor”! I plan to alternate this series with my “Man of Honor,” “Entrepreneur of the Month,” “Trailblazer of the Month,” and “Trendsetter of the Month” series.

The media is fraught with negative images that might lead viewers to believe that many of the women among us are not worthy of honor! I will continue to counter these stereotypes with positive portrayals. The featured women of honor will include entertainers as well as leaders in other industries, and I hope that they will inspire you. Singer and entertainer Mary Griffin is the first “Woman of Honor”!

“With a powerfully unique voice and a definitive sound, Mary Griffin consistently delivers soul stirring performances that captivate audiences around the world. Using her past as a spring board, Mary channels memories into melodies that are proud and strong. Her rich melodic sound and exciting performance style are rooted in the story of a pastor’s daughter with a passion for singing good music.”

According to Billboard Magazine, “Mary Griffin displays the vocal prowess, attitude and range of a true ingenue.” Not only is Mary an amazing singer, but she was “even featured in the movie Studio 54 where she portrayed the artist Amy Stewart.” I appreciate Mary Griffin for accepting my invitation to be the “Woman of Honor” for November 2013. Next week, you will learn who has contributed to Mary Griffin’s success. What do you think of this series?
